the levitating frog

The Ig nobel of 2000 was won by Michael Berry and Andrey Geim. Their experiments show a living frog levitating above water.

Nowadays, everybody has heard about the supraconductor phenomena with which we can defy gravity using supraconductors, magnets and hypercooled fluids like liquid nitrogen.

In that case, the strange fact is that the levitated object is a living organism and at room temperature! Moreover they showed that it is possible to levitate all living creatures on earth due to their present molecular magnetism.

Tests have already been made with metals, liquids, polymers and some animals like frogs, mice and fishes with no adverse effects.

Explanation : Everything on earth is formed by atoms with electrons, which can make a magnetic field. That magnetic field is formed to oppose to external influence.

So, if an external magnetic field is applied, the object will respond by creating an opposite magnetic field of the same power in the opposite direction. That phenomenon is the one observed with the repulsion between two simple magnets.

In our case, the magnet put in the water creates a big magnetic field of around 12 Tesla. Once put in this field, the tiny atoms inside the frog will compense that field as well as gravity because the direction of the magnetic field created will be in the opposite direction to the gravity.

The frog is not submitted to the gravity force anymore and can levitate.

It's a very funny experiment! I would like to carry out the same!
